MEPhI is in Moscow. It started in 1942, mainly for nuclear science and engineering. Today, MEPhI also runs an MBBS program, which began in 2008. The course is recognised by NMC and WHO. It is 6 years long, including 1 year of internship. The fee is around 6 lakh rupees per year. Students get modern labs and clinical training in Moscow hospitals. Voronezh State Medical University

VSMU is one of the oldest medical universities in Russia. It started in 1918 and is named after Dr N.N. Burdenko, a well-known Russian surgeon. It is recognised by NMC and WHO. The MBBS course is 6 years, fully in English. VSMU has more than 800 faculty members and 29 hospitals attached for clinical training. The fee is around 4 to 6 lakh rupees per year. It is a good choice for strong hospital exposure.

Volgograd State Medical University

Volgograd was earlier called Stalingrad, famous in history for the Battle of Stalingrad in World War 2. VolgSMU started in 1935. It is recognised by NMC and WHO. English medium MBBS has run here for more than 20 years. Today, more than 900 Indian students study at VolgSMU. The fee is around 4.5 to 6 lakh rupees per year. The university has 7 hostels, with separate sections for boys and girls.

Yaroslavl State Medical University

YSMU started in 1944. It is in Yaroslavl, a city on the famous “Golden Ring” route of Russia, also a UNESCO World Heritage site. YSMU is recognised by NMC, WHO and ECFMG. Students get hospital exposure from the 3rd year itself. The fee here is one of the lowest among NMC-approved universities, around 3 to 3.5 lakh rupees per year. It is a good option for a low budget, well-recognised university.

Kazan Federal University

Kazan Federal University is very old. It started in 1804, on the orders of Emperor Alexander I. It is one of the oldest universities in Russia, where the famous writer Leo Tolstoy once studied. KFU teaches MBBS through its Institute of Fundamental Medicine and Biology. It is recognised by NMC and WHO. The course is in English for 6 years. The fee is around 4.5 to 5 lakh rupees per year. It mixes old tradition with modern medical training.

Kemerovo State Medical University

KemSMU is in Kemerovo, a city in Siberia. It started in 1955. It is recognised by NMC, WHO and ECFMG, and has been listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools since 1992. More than 4,500 students from 38 countries study here, including many Indians. The fee is around 3.5 to 4 lakh rupees per year, which is quite affordable. The course is 6 years in English. NSMU is known for its special focus on Arctic medicine, that is, health problems related to very cold regions. Ivanovo State Medical University started in 1930. It is in Ivanovo city, part of Russia’s historic “Golden Ring” region, close to Moscow. NMC has recognised this university since 2002. It has trained more than 25,000 doctors so far. The fee here is one of the lowest in Russia, around 3 to 3.5 lakh rupees per year. The course is in English for 6 years. Ivanovo is also called the “Textile City” of Russia, with a calm student life.

NWSMU is named after the famous scientist I.I. Mechnikov, who won the Nobel Prize. It is in Saint Petersburg, one of the most beautiful cities in Russia. The university was formed in 2011, but its roots go back more than 100 years. It is recognised by NMC and WHO. The course is 6 years in English. The fee is around 3.5 to 4 lakh rupees per year. Chuvash State University is in Cheboksary city. It started in 1967. It is recognised by NMC, WHO and other bodies like GMC and USMLE. There is no separate entrance test here, apart from NEET.
