Where NEET 2026 counselling stands right now
The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) opened Round 3 registration for the 15% All India Quota and deemed, central and AIIMS/JIPMER seats on 22 September 2026. Here are the remaining MCC dates that matter for your decision.

State quota counselling runs separately, and many states are starting their third rounds around 28 September. Your state counselling authority’s website is the only reliable source for your state’s dates and cut-offs.
By the time the stray round result is out on 17 October, most universities abroad will already have started classes. That is why the decision cannot wait until the last Indian round is over.
Should you wait for Round 3 and the stray round, or go abroad?
This is not a choice between two options. It is a question of how much risk you carry at each step. Use your previous-year closing ranks as a guide, not hope.
Wait and keep counselling as your main plan if
- Your AIQ or state rank is within, or very close to, last year’s Round 3 closing rank for your category.
- You are eligible for state quota seats in a state with many government seats and a late round still ahead.
- Your family can afford a private or deemed seat in India and you are willing to take it.
Start the abroad process now, in parallel, if
- Your rank is well outside last year’s final closing ranks for government seats in your category.
- Private or deemed college fees in India (often ₹60 lakh to over ₹1 crore for the full course) are beyond your budget.
- You are not willing to take a drop year and repeat NEET.
Before you accept a Round 3 or stray round seat: read MCC’s rules on security deposit forfeiture and seat resignation for these rounds in the current information bulletin. Seats taken in later rounds come with stricter conditions, and walking away can cost you money.
A realistic October–November timeline for MBBS abroad
Once a university confirms admission, the paperwork usually takes a few weeks. The exact time depends on the country, the embassy workload and how quickly your documents are ready.
- This week: check your passport. It should be valid for at least 18 months from your travel date. If you do not have one, apply under Tatkal immediately. This is the single biggest cause of delay.
- Collect documents: Class 10 and 12 marksheets and certificates, NEET 2026 scorecard, birth certificate, passport photos, and a medical fitness certificate. Some countries also need an HIV test report and a police clearance certificate.
- Shortlist and verify: choose two or three universities and verify each one against NMC’s Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate (FMGL) Regulations, 2021, before applying.
- Apply and receive the admission or invitation letter: usually one to three weeks.
- Pay the first-year fee directly to the university’s official bank account and keep all receipts.
- Visa: typically two to six weeks, depending on the country and season.
- Travel: plan to land no later than the university’s final reporting date. Late arrivals miss classes that are hard to recover.
In practice, a student who starts in the last week of September can usually be on campus by late October or November, if the passport is ready.
Which countries still have intake open?
The countries below admit Indian NEET qualifiers every year and usually accept late admissions into October and November. Seat availability changes weekly, so treat this as a starting list, not a guarantee.

Be careful with any offer of “MBBS in Russia for ₹25 lakh”. Once tuition, hostel, food, visa renewal and medical insurance are added, a realistic all-inclusive minimum at a good Russian university is at least ₹35 lakh.

Five mistakes families make in a late admission
- Choosing on price alone. The cheapest university often has the weakest FMGE record. A lower fee is no saving if the graduate cannot clear the licensing exam in India.
- Skipping the NMC compliance check. In April 2026, NMC issued an advisory naming specific universities in Uzbekistan over FMGL violations such as over-admission and non-English instruction. Check before you pay, not after.
- Paying an agent instead of the university. Tuition should go directly to the university’s official account, with an official receipt.
- Accepting vague “all-inclusive” packages. Ask for a written, year-by-year breakdown of tuition, hostel, food, visa renewal, insurance and any registration charges.
- Arriving after the reporting deadline. Missing the first weeks of anatomy and language classes makes the first year harder than it needs to be.
What NMC requires from your foreign MBBS
Your degree will only let you practise in India if the course meets the FMGL Regulations, 2021. In short:
- At least 54 months of study, plus a 12-month internship at the same foreign university.
- The entire course in English, at one institution, with no transfer midway.
- Eligibility to be registered as a doctor in the country where you study.
- After returning, you must clear the screening exam (currently FMGE) and complete a 12-month supervised internship in India.
