The university had its first set of graduates after it finished implementing its 6year program in 1955. The Central research laboratory and the scientific research centre were established in 1966 and 1991 respectively.

University Introduction:
Karaganda State Medical Institute changed to Karaganda State Medical Academy in 1977, and in 2009 changed again to Karaganda State Medical University. The university provides training in three languages; Kazakh, Russian and English. The English department of foreign languages was opened in 2001. The school takes part in the implementation of International Research and development. This is in collaboration with the state research center of virology and the cancer research center of RAMS (Moscow).
The World Health Organization recognizes the high-quality training provided by the school. As such, it included the university in the directory of medical schools ‘Avicenna’. The university has partnerships hospitals, 60 universities and research centers from over 22 countries.

The various faculties within the school include Faculty of Biology and Pharmacy, Faculty of Preventive Medicine, Faculty of Continuous Professional Development, Faculty of Internships, and Faculty of General Medicine and dentistry.
