Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University is a public university located in Batumi, Georgia. It was established in 1935. In 1938, it was named after Shota Rustaveli, a medieval poet. Initially, in 1935, the university was a two year teaching institute that was opened in a Boys gymnasium located in Batumi. It had four faculties: Georgian language and literature, physics-mathematics, history and natural geography. In 1936, the faculty was added, and in 1938, the faculties of Russian language and literature were also added.
