Akaki Tsereteli State University was established in 1930 in Tbilisi, Georgia. It is currently located in Kutaisi, and is also known as Kutaisi University. It was established on the basis of Tbilisi State University. Its name changed to Akaki Tsereteli State University in 1990. It was named after Akaki Tsereteli, a national liberation movement figure, and a Georgian poet. It is considered one of the oldest higher education institutions in Georgia.
